She is currently working on the publishing and recording of her solo piano compositions, as well as preparing her upcoming solo piano recitals in the US, Portugal and Spain. Mariel was recently appointed the Assistant to the Director of the Gijon International Piano Festival; as well as Vice Director of the Porto Pianofest, in which she has helped to launch its first summer season in Porto, Portugal. Mariel has received distinctions such such as the "Outstanding Accompanist Award" for the Music in the Parks Competition. She participated in the NJN Hispanic Youth Showcase and was presented with the Tito Puente Scholarship Award, and an outstanding performance ranking at the Young People’s Audition held by the R.C. Music Teacher’s Guild. Having studied piano from a very early age, she completed all levels of the NYSSMA and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music piano examinations- where she achieved the highest distinction mark in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Ms. Mayz made her debut with the Rockland Symphony Orchestra at the age of sixteen, and thereafter continued to perform in places such as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Lincoln Center, Pardington Hall, the Carnegie Room, Tenri Cultural Institute, and many other venues. Mariel enjoys a variety of other musical genres, such as jazz, gospel and improvisation, which she has studied with Jean-Michel Pilc and Mac Brandon. Additionally, Mariel's experience with musical theater has been developed in her work with many Broadway vocalists and choreographers, as well as her musical direction of many productions at New York University. Mariel Mayz has been invited to a number of summer festivals, including the Pianofest in the Hamptons and Boston University's Tanglewood Institute. She regularly attends the Gijon International Piano Festival, Spain, where she has had the opportunity to perform, and work closely with pianists such as Logan Skelton, Jean Salnier, Dominique Weber, James Giles, Marc Durand, Julian Martin, Robert MacDonald and Roberto Plano. Mariel received her bachelor’s degree from New York University under the instruction of Dr. Jose Ramon Mendez and Seymour Bernstein. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree with Geoffrey Burleson at CUNY Hunter College.

The Union Arts Staff members are passionate about maintaining and building a community centered around creativity and collaboration. The mission is to provide a place to gather in spirited community and engage in self-inquiry and creative exchange.  We support and engage our local community through the Arts. We host events in the Visual and Performing Arts, and welcome multi-disciplinary approaches, as well as the inclusion of Health and Healing as part of our creative programming. It is the UAC’s purpose to honor the creative spark in each individual and have art be a vehicle for expressing a more authentic life.
