With Dan Tepfer, Jazz Piano Wizard & Yamaha Disklavier Expert
One of the highlights of any concert in Quincy Hall is the magnificent Yamaha DCFIIISM4Pro 9’ concert grand piano, with Disklavier technology installed. The Disklavier is Yamaha’s unique system for digitally recording every subtle nuance of anything performed on the piano, and then playing it back with motorized keys, so you can see the motion of the keys action as the music was performed. It’s quite an amazing piano in its own right, but with the Disklavier included it becomes something of a modern technological miracle.
With degrees in both astrophysics and music, there’s no one better qualified to demonstrate the capabilities of this remarkable technology than Dan Tepfer. As a pianist, Dan has performed with many jazz greats, including veteran saxophone luminary Lee Konitz. Dan’s 2011 Sunnyside album Goldberg Variations / Variations, featured him performing J.S. Bach’s masterpiece as well as improvising upon it to “build a bridge across centuries and genres.” A recipient of many prestigious awards both as a jazz pianist and classical composer, Dan is currently working on integrating computer-driven algorithms into his improvisational approach.
This event is guaranteed to be both informative and musically enjoyable. And, It’s FREE!
Presented by the Rockland County Jazz & Blues Society in partnership with Yamaha Artists and Union Arts Center.
