Root – free writing for difficult stories

A free writing practice for anyone interested in meeting to write in the company of others – about the heartfelt and strange, as well as the painful.

What are difficult stories? Any thoughts or experience you want to put into words, but don’t easily find a place for in daily life.  Subjects could include – sexuality, grief, our bodies, our beliefs, growing older, longing, and fear; but also joy, humor, and even hope can sometimes feel taboo.

This is a space to practice keeping pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), to metabolize words that rise up through the act of writing, and to use fiction as a creative and protective lens on our experience.

Following AWA guidelines, only positive feedback will be offered, and any writing shared (read only what you wish) will be treated as fiction.  This group is imagined for all those who may not identify as writers, but who love to write, or want to begin a writing practice.  Discussion and snacks tend to follow.
